They will also learn about the insects that call native plants home and how certain insects affect local bird populations. Additionally\, join a team from the Lancaster Conservancy and go on an “insect safari” in our native meadow. \nRegistration is required here. Registration closes 48 hours prior to class. \n The (under)Story of Trees and Soil\nTuesday\, October 12 from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.\nDiscover soil\, worms\, and other creatures that live in the soil\, as well as the beauty of the “understory” that lives beneath trees and shrubs. Plus\, visit the Bonsai exhibit and meet members of the Susquehanna Bonsai Club\, who will explain the art and care of their trees. \nRegistration is required here. She has been playing the harp for six years with a small hallel harp\, and most recently\, a larger Lyon and Healy. Over the past few years\, she has performed with the Harrisburg Harp Orchestra\, and at Hershey Gardens\, The Hershey Story Museum\, as well as various weddings\, dinner receptions\, nursing homes\, and churches as part of a trio with her sister (hammered dulcimer) and brother (guitar).

Learn about the valuable role that cockroaches play in recycling the earth’s energy\, conduct a soil experiment and engage in fun games and crafts that illustrate the value of recycling.\n \nA packet of materials will be provided upon entry. Education staff will be available to answer questions. Masks are required inside all buildings and outdoors when social distancing is not possible. Tickets to the Butterfly Atrium are included in admission. \nPre-registration is required here.\nRegistration will close on May 24 at 8 a.m. \nHomeschool Day provides a service beyond regular Gardens admission\, therefore\, no discounts\, passes\, or memberships are accepted.
