SUMMARY:Educational Program: The Susquehannocks
DESCRIPTION:The Susquehannocks: Land\, Identity and Regional History\nThe Susquehannocks built the largest Indigenous settlements in this region. They cleared land and farmed on a large scale\, aided by excellent local growing conditions and the Susquehanna River as a transportation and communication highway. They traded and conducted diplomacy with Swedish and English colonists and other Native Americans before Pennsylvania was chartered. Even today\, some area residents have strong family traditions of descent from these farmers\, builders and warriors.\n\nIn this free educational program\, Dr. Tanya Kevorkian (Associate Professor of History at Millersville University) surveys the history of the Susquehannocks from their formation in the 1500s through their heyday in the early to mid-1600s\, crisis in the later 1600s\, to echoes in the present day. \nTo RSVP\, email office@manada.org or call the office at 717-566-4122.

DESCRIPTION:Guests can enjoy live music by Segno\, a string duet consisting of Harpist Sylvia Sweigert and Hammered Dulcimer player LillieMae Sweigert. \nSylvia and LillieMae are members of the Harrisburg Harp Orchestra\, playing in the greater Harrisburg and Philadelphia Area. They play a wide range of music such as Broadway tunes\, popular songs\, Celtic favorites\, American folk\, classical pieces\, and familiar hymns. The duet often composes their own arrangements\, to suit the occasion. Sylvia plays a Lyon & Healy Prelude 38\, and LillieMae plays a custom James Jones 4/19/21/9 Hammered Dulcimer. \nPerformances will take place in the Milton & Catherine Hershey Conservatory.  Included in admission; free for members.
